The Miami Neuroscience Center Team Presents at the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Meeting

Our team at the Miami Neuroscience Center presented at one of the most important meetings in the world for Neurosurgery, the 15th Interim Meeting of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), which took place in Rome on September 8-12, 2015.

The WFNS hosts a major meeting every two years, one of which is the World Congress and the other is the WFNS Interim Meeting.

After the success of the previous meetings of Porto de Galinhas, Brazil in 2011 and Nagoya, Japan in 2007, the 2015 Interim Meeting in Rome included an extensive scientific program and a stimulating social program, both of which were organized by the Italian Neurosurgical Society.

The meeting focused on the major breakthroughs and advances in Neurosurgery, from clinical practice to research, technology and innovation for a top-level scientific program, including many opportunities for young neurosurgeons through hands-on and educational courses.

Our team at the Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin gave 3 presentations and had an abstract published.

At the "Head and Injury Critical Care" session of the WFNS meeting, Dr. Andres M. Alvarez-Pinzon presented "Outcomes and Experience with subdural peritoneal Shunts in the Management of subdural hematoma," coauthored with Drs. Jose Valerio, Sammie Coy, Marcos Sanchez- Gonzalez, and Aizik Wolf.

At the "Neuro-oncology" session, Dr. Jose E. Valerio  presented "Gamma Knife radiosurgery and chemotherapy in the primary treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme: A prospective, observational study," coauthored with Drs. Andres Alvarez-Pinzon, Sammie Coy, Jennifer Escalante, Nitiah Lopez-Lima, Aizik Wolf.

At the "Functional" session, Dr. Jose E. Valerio and Dr. Andres M. Alvarez-Pinzon presented "Percutaneous retrogasserian balloon compression for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia in Multiple Sclerosis," authored in collaboration with Dr. Aizik Wolf, Dr. Sammie Coy, and Dr. Marcos Sanchez-Gonzalez. We would like to congratulate our team at the Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin for their success and efforts.
